You really need to go buy some new shoes after this ordeal.
Try different shapes an colors, that will cheer you up. Don´t forget to send some photos!

That’s the same rule Dinko has for me. For me, it deters me from even buying any shoes at all until a former pair breaks beyond repair Shoes are hard to part with.

Thanks for the comments — this was quite fun to write apart from being cathartic. And yes, Mel is very nice about the shoe thing, though she has been enforcing a new policy that I need to get rid of the same number of pairs that I buy (which I think is a good idea as space is limited).

That was awesome. I miss seeing all your cool shoes.

I still have my first pair of docs, too… but don’t tell the wife. They’re hidden away in a memory box. I bought them with the last of my financial aid money in 1992 two weeks before classes started my first year at college. I wore them almost constantly through seven years, seven girls, and probably 350 shows.

It’s odd how shoes can synch up with so many memories.

so sad – but beautifully memorialized. I recently gave away 6 pairs of shoes on Freecycle. Made me feel better knowing they were going to someone who really wanted them.

That was beautiful. Your wife apparently lets you have all the shoes my wife won’t let me have, uh, except, you know, for men.

Then again, I’ve yet to have to throw any of them out and still have that pair of black Doc Martens that saw 5 Mardi Gras and countless fields and construction days and then some.
