Ladytron and Cansei de Ser Sexy

Last night I went to see Ladytron and Cansei de Ser Sexy at the TLA. I took a million pictures and videos (which I’ll be uploading throughout the next few days, check back), it was much fun.

Cansei De Ser Sexy
CSS
When I first got there I was surprised and disappointed because there weren’t more than 40 people total and it was close to start time. By the time Cansei de Ser Sexy came to stage that number had not changed and even still, they manage to kick ass and get everybody dancing and put on a really great show. Lovefoxx is so full of energy! CSS is a an electro-clash band from my hometown, Sao Paulo; I had never had a chance to see them live before but had been listening to for a long time. Though their lyrics are 95% in English, I had a blast singing along to the bits in Portuguese because people around me looked very puzzled. I like puzzling.

Ladytron
Ladytron
Ladytron was cool (aren’t they always?) and their set was a good fan pleaser. They played everything I was hoping they would (Playgirl, He Took Her To a Movie, Blue Jeans, Sugar, Destroy Everything You Touch) and confirmed my theory that nobody in the band can smile. How they do it, I don’t know. Seriously, not only no smiles, but no other expressions either. It really does fit their style, but it’s just plain weird. Seeing them live also reinforced my previous observation about Helen Marnie looking a hell lot like Emily Blunt.

I had a great time – I guess CSS’s enthusiasm really got me going in a way that Ladytron’s lack thereof sort of disappointed me (perhaps too hard to mood-swing on Q?). Still, if you can catch them in other cities, don’t miss CSS, you’ll be pleasently surprised.
